This presentation will review the latest industry trends and risks related to the disclosure and access of PHI across the patient care eco-system, as well as explore five best practices for providing patient access while protecting privacy to consider when reviewing HIPAA compliance programs, including removing barriers to patient access; implementing HIPAA Security Rule safeguards and associated policies and procedures; standardizing and centralizing PHI policies, procedures and technologies; training staff and periodically administering audits/ tests; and conducting HIPAA compliance assessments of Business Associates.
Sara Goldstein, Esq., General Counsel for MRO
As General Counsel for MRO, Goldstein is responsible for providing legal direction and guidance for the company and overseeing MRO’s compliance with HIPAA. Prior to joining MRO, Goldstein worked as the Associate Counsel for Business Development at ECRI Institute, an international healthcare research organization. She currently is an adjunct professor of law at Drexel University, where she teaches a course on HIPAA and patient privacy; she is also an established author and speaker on health information privacy and security compliance. Goldstein holds a B.A. from Smith College and graduated with honors from Drexel University School of Law, where she received her J.D. with a concentration in Health Law.
