Position Descriptions
President
The office of the President is responsible for providing leadership oversight and guidance to the Board and the membership in all affairs of the state Association. The President also functions as ILHIMA’s primary liaison to AHIMA and serves as a delegate in the AHIMA House of Delegates.
Requirements: Active member of AHIMA with ILHIMA selected as CA. Previously held a regional, state, or national volunteer position or project manager experience. Cannot hold any other regional or national board position during this term.
Term: Assumes office as of July 1st and ends June 30th after serving a term as President-elect. One-year term as President. Following the term as President, the individual serves an additional year on the ILHIMA Board as Past President. Serves as an Officer of ILHIMA.
President-Elect
The office of the President-elect assists the President in providing leadership oversight and guidance to the Board and the membership in all affairs of the state Association.
Requirements: Active member of AHIMA with ILHIMA selected as CA. Previously held a state, regional, or national volunteer position. Cannot hold any other regional or national board position during this term.
Term: Assumes office as of July 1st and ends June 30th. One-year term as President-elect after which the individual serves one term as President and finally, one term as Past President. Serves as officer of ILHIMA.
Past President
The office of the Past President assists the President in providing leadership oversight and guidance to the Board and the membership in all affairs of the state Association.
Requirements: Active member of AHIMA with ILHIMA selected as CA. Previously held a regional, state, or national volunteer position or has project manager experience. Cannot hold any other regional or national board position during this term.
Term: Assumes office as of July 1st and ends June 30th. One-year term as Past President, after having served one year as President-Elect and one year as President. Serves as Officer of ILHIMA.
Education Director
The office of the Education Director assists the President in providing leadership oversight and guidance to the Board and the membership in all affairs of the state Association. Provides quality educational meetings to the ILHIMA members.
Requirements: Active member of AHIMA with ILHIMA selected as the CA. Previously held a regional, state, or national volunteer position or have project manager or committee member experience. Cannot concurrently hold any other regional or national board position.
Term: Assumes office as of July 1st and ends June 30th. Two-year term as Director (1st Year Director; then 2nd Year Director).
Communications Director
The office of the Communications Director assists the President in providing leadership oversight and guidance to the Board and the membership in all affairs of the state Association, develops and executes the member communication plan, manages and executes ILHIMA’s social media strategy, assists with the ILHIMA mentoring HIM career awareness initiatives, and when needed assists with website design.
Requirements: Active member of AHIMA with ILHIMA selected as CA. Previously held a regional, state, or national volunteer position or have project manager or committee member experience.
Term: Assumes office as of July 1st and ends June 30th. Two-year term as Director. (1st Year Director, then 2nd Year Director.)
Advocacy/Legislative Director
The office of the Advocacy/Legislative Director assists the President in providing leadership oversight and guidance to the Board and the membership in all affairs of the state Association and reviews/communicates State legislative activities.
Requirements: Active member of AHIMA with ILHIMA selected as the CA. Previously held a regional, state, or national volunteer position or have project manager or committee member experience.
Term: Assumes office as of July 1st and ends June 30th. Two-year term as Director. (1st Year Director, then 2nd Year Director.)
Delegate
The office of the Delegate is responsible for providing two-way communications between the AHIMA Leadership (Board of Directors and House of Delegates) and the Component Association members. Each Delegate holds one vote at the House of Delegates which is to represent the ILHIMA members and Board of Directors. The ILHIMA delegates are the President, President-Elect, Past President and the 2 elected Delegates.
Requirements: Must be an active member of AHIMA with ILHIMA selected as the CA. Must have previous volunteer experience at state or national level.
Term: Assumes office as of July 1st and ends June 30th. Two-year term as Delegate. The second year will be Lead Delegate.
