The Manager of Health Information Management is responsible for managing, coordinating, and performing the day to day HIM departmental operations and staff supervision. The HIM Manager will oversee and implement facility related HIM operation planning and initiatives, budgets, workflow processes and internal controls. Responsibilities include hiring, training, planning and directing workflow, addressing complaints and resolving problems, and actively overseeing and managing production and quality control efforts. Participates in the development of HIM policies and procedures. Serves as the designated Privacy Officer and Records Custodian. Facilitates and supports changes in ICD-10, meaningful use, and any other regulatory changes or company initiatives. These responsibilities are not all-inclusive. Proven management skills in monitoring HIM functional areas is required.
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or Administrator (RHIA) certification required. Minimum of three years acute-care HIM department head level management experience, budgeting, project management, and knowledge of information systems and healthcare applications in addition to database applications and report writing software; as well as experience in a small to mid-size hospital required. Preferred experience with electronic record systems such as Cerner PowerChart. A strong understanding of regulatory requirements such as CMS, HHS and HIPPA Privacy is necessary.
