Each year HIM students are required to interview someone in the profession who is currently performing the job they will seek after graduation. Students love this assignment because they get first-hand knowledge of what the job actually entails and priceless advice on how to pursue their career. Of course, coders are the most sought after. However students are interested in all facets of our profession.
Unfortunately, with so many employees working from home and the pressures of transitioning into ICD10 and the electronic health record, directors are reluctant to let students take the 10-15 minutes out of their staff’s day to complete the interview.
Consequently, we are asking you as HIM professionals, to volunteer to respond to 1-2 telephone interview requests each semester. Typically, students will ask:
- How long you have worked at your position
- What are the advantages and disadvantages of your position
- What is a typical work day
- What advice would you give someone entering this field
Please help us help our students by clicking here to supply your name and contact information. If phoning is not an option, students could conduct interview via email. Thanks for your support.
